Los que fueron, los que no fueron y los que son

Resumo

We develop a brief history of the archaeological museums of La Paz (Bolivia), tracking the formation of collections exhibited in the city museums, and linking them with the intellectual and political history of Bolivia. This paper includes public and private museums from mid-19th to mid-20th centuries; two unsuccessful museum projects between the 1950s and 70s; and the recent history of the three museums that display pre-Hispanic materials nowadays.
